    Big Ben 150th Anniversary

    A distinctive quartz travel alarm clock inspired by the great clock of the Houses of Parliament, on one side of the enamel case is the clock face while on the other is the great bell, known as 'Big Ben'. The chimes of the famous hour bell were heard over Westminster for the first time on 11 July 1859. Designed by Peter Hunt.

    Playing an extract from Beethoven's 5th, this magnificent musical box commemorates the bicentenary of the first performance in 1808 of the composer's 5th and 6th Symphonies. The lid depicts Ludwig van Beethoven and the original venue, the Theater an der Wien, while the base is decorated with pastoral themes from the 6th Symphony, and 'Fate knocking at the door', the motif from the first movement of the 5th.

    To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the naturalist's birth in 1809 and the 150th anniversary of his great work: 'On the Origins of Species by Means of Natural Selection'. In 1831 Darwin embarked on a scientific expedition on HMS Beagle to the Galapagos Islands and throughout the long voyage he studied the fauna and flora of many lands. This handsome box features many of the species he studied, whilst inside is a drawing of Down House, where he lived from 1842 working on his theory of evolution.
