This atmospheric view of London’s famous square, named in honour of Britain’s naval hero, looks south-eastwards down Whitehall, with Big Ben just visible in the distance. Nelson’s Column, silhouetted against the moonlit sky, dominates the scene. The original painting is in the collection of the Museum of London.

Eve stands before the Tree of Knowledge as she hands an apple to a bewildered Adam. The serpent, entwined in the tree’s branches above, looks on as Adam succumbs to temptation. The fine detail of this masterpiece is beautifully captured in miniature on this enamel box.
